  • Salt: Homogeneous Mixture or Compound? Understanding Sodium Chloride
    Compound

Salt is a compound because it consists of two or more elements that are chemically combined in a fixed proportion by mass. In the case of salt, the elements are sodium and chlorine, which are combined in a 1:1 ratio to form sodium chloride (NaCl). The properties of salt are different from those of its constituent elements, and it cannot be separated into its constituent elements by physical means.
