  • Crushed Ice: Pure Substance or Mixture? Homogeneous vs. Heterogeneous
Crushed ice is a pure substance. It is made up of only one element, water, and it has a definite chemical composition.

Crushed ice is also a homogenous substance. This means that it has the same composition throughout. Every piece of crushed ice is made up of the same water molecules.

In contrast, a mixture is a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically bonded together. A mixture can be heterogeneous, which means that it has different compositions in different parts, or it can be homogenous, which means that it has the same composition throughout.
