  • Sodium Bicarbonate Molecular Geometry: Understanding the Shape of NaHCO3
Sodium bicarbonate has a distorted octahedral molecular geometry.

The molecular shape of NaHCO3 is an irregular tetrahedron. This is because the HCO3- ion has a trigonal pyramidal shape, and the Na+ ion is located above one of the faces of the pyramid. The Na-O bonds are shorter than the O-C bonds, and the O-H bond is the longest bond in the molecule.
