An electron is a negatively charged subatomic particle. Electrons are one of the three subatomic particles that make up atoms, the other two being protons and neutrons. Electrons are located in the electron cloud of an atom, which is the region surrounding the nucleus where electrons are most likely to be found. Electrons are responsible for the chemical properties of atoms and for the formation of chemical bonds.
