Identifying 1948 Dimes: All Silver vs. Clad Composition
To know if a 1948 dime is all silver or clad with copper nickel, you need to see its composition. Look for the letter on the reverse side of the coin, which would give you information on the composition of the dine:
- No lettering: 90% silver, 10% copper
- "D" mint mark: 90% silver, 10% copper
- "S" mint mark: 50% silver, 50% copper
