  • Neutralizing Sulfuric Acid: The Role of Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)
The base that neutralizes sulfuric acid is sodium hydroxide (NaOH). When sodium hydroxide is added to sulfuric acid, a chemical reaction takes place, resulting in the formation of sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) and water (H2O). The reaction can be represented by the following equation:

    H2SO4 + 2NaOH → Na2SO4 + 2H2O

In this reaction, the sodium hydroxide acts as a base, while sulfuric acid acts as an acid. The reaction proceeds until all the acid is neutralized, resulting in a neutral solution.
