  • Electron Configuration: Calculating Electrons per Element
The number of electrons an element has is equal to its atomic number. This number is unique to each element and can be found in a periodic table. The atomic number represents the number of protons found in the nucleus of an atom. Electrons are arranged around the nucleus in multiple energy levels called shells. The number of electrons in each shell increases as you move down the periodic table.
