  • Atomic Charge: Calculating Overall Charge from Protons and Electrons
The overall charge of an atom is neutral. This is because the number of positive charges (protons) in the nucleus is equal to the number of negative charges (electrons) in the electron cloud. This balance of charges creates an overall neutral charge for the atom.

In the case of an atom with 3 positive charges (protons) and 4 negative charges (electrons), the overall charge would be -1. This is because there would be one more electron than proton, resulting in a net negative charge.
