Lactic acid, also known as 2-hydroxypropanoic acid, has the molecular formula CH3CH(OH)COOH. It contains one carboxyl group (-COOH) and one hydroxyl group (-OH), but no carbon-carbon double bonds (C=C), and therefore no pi bonds. All the bonds in lactic acid are sigma bonds.
