  • Heterogeneous Mixtures: Definition, Examples & Characteristics
A heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture in which the composition is not uniform throughout the mixture. This means that different parts of the mixture may have different compositions or properties. Heterogeneous mixtures are often easy to identify because they may have visible components or phases that are separate from each other. Examples of heterogeneous mixtures include mixtures of solids and liquids (suspensions), mixtures of liquids and gases (foams), and mixtures of solids and gases (aerosols). In a heterogeneous mixture, the components may not be completely dissolved into each other and may retain their individual properties. The composition and properties of a heterogeneous mixture can vary from one region of the mixture to another.
