Ferrous ammonium sulphate is a highly reactive compound and can easily oxidize in the presence of air, resulting in the formation of ferric compounds which can interfere with the desired reaction. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare ferrous ammonium sulphate in a minimum amount of water to minimize the exposure to air and prevent oxidation.
