  • Physical or Chemical Change: Dissolving Table Salt in Water
    This represents a physical change.

When table salt is added to water, the ionic compound dissolves into its constituent ions (Na+ and Cl-). These ions are then dispersed throughout the water and become homogeneously mixed with the water molecules. However, the chemical composition of the salt remains the same. The ions are still present in the same proportions as they were before the salt was dissolved. Therefore, this process is classified as a physical change rather than a chemical change.
