  • Gypsum and Hydrochloric Acid Reaction: Will It Fizz?
    No.

The chemical formula for gypsum is $$CaSO_4.2H_2O$$.

The chemical formula for hydrochloric acid is $$HCl$$.

When $$CaSO_4.2H_2O$$ and $$HCl$$ are mixed, the following reaction occurs:

    $$CaSO_4.2H_2O+2HCl \rightarrow CaCl_2+2H_2O+SO_2$$

As you can see from the reaction equation, no gas is produced. This means that there will be no fizzing.
