    General Properties of Metals:

    1. High Electrical and Thermal Conductivity: Metals are excellent conductors of electricity and heat. This is because their atoms have loosely bound outermost electrons that can move freely, allowing for easy flow of electric current and heat.

    2. Shiny Appearance and Luster: The outer electron layer in metals reflects light, giving them their characteristic metallic shine and luster.

    3. Malleability and Ductility: Metals can be easily shaped and deformed without breaking. Malleability refers to the ability to be hammered into thin sheets, while ductility refers to being drawn into thin wires. These properties are a result of their strong metallic bonds and the ability of their atoms to slide past each other.

    4. Solid at Room Temperature (Except Mercury): Most metals are solid at room temperature, with the exception of mercury, which is a liquid.

    5. Strength: Metals are known for their strength and durability. They are resistant to deformation, making them suitable for structural applications.

    6. High Density: Metals generally have higher densities compared to non-metallic elements.

    7. Reaction with Oxygen: Many metals react with oxygen in a process called oxidation, forming metal oxides. Rust, for example, is a common form of iron oxide that is formed when iron is exposed to moisture and oxygen.

    8. Alloys: Metals can be combined with other elements to form alloys, which have different properties compared to the pure metals. Alloys are often stronger and more resistant to corrosion than pure metals.

    9. Thermal Expansion: Metals generally expand when heated and contract when cooled.

    10. Sonority: Many metals produce a clear and ringing sound when struck, due to their elasticity.

    11. Reactivity: Some metals, such as sodium and potassium, are highly reactive and can react vigorously with air or water. Others, like gold and platinum, are relatively inert.

    These are some general properties commonly associated with metallic elements. However, there are variations in properties among different metals, and not all metals exhibit all of these characteristics to the same extent.
