    Covalent bonds are formed when two non-metallic elements share electrons. This is because atoms of non-metallic elements have relatively low electronegativities, meaning that they are not strongly attracted to electrons. As a result, they are more likely to share electrons with each other than to donate or accept them from other atoms. Some common examples of elements that join to form covalent bonds include carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, fluorine, and chlorine.
