  • Oxygen Production in Cells: Understanding Chloroplasts and Photosynthesis
The oxygen gas production in a cell occurs in the chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are small organelles found in plant cells and some other eukaryotic organisms. They are the sites of photosynthesis, the process by which light energy is converted into chemical energy in the form of glucose. During photosynthesis, water molecules are split, and oxygen gas is released as a byproduct.
