  • Polyethylene Solubility: Understanding Dissolution in Water & Other Solvents
Polyethylene is not soluble in water. Solubility is the maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved in 100 ml of solvent at a given temperature. Polyethylene is a non-polar polymer, while water is a polar solvent. Non-polar molecules do not dissolve in polar solvents because the intermolecular forces between the two types of molecules are too different. Polyethylene is also a very dense material, so it does not dissolve easily in any solvent.
