  • Melting: Understanding the Phase Change from Solid to Liquid
The change in state of matter from solid to liquid is called melting. Melting occurs when a solid substance is heated to its melting point, the temperature at which it changes from a solid to a liquid. During melting, the molecules in the solid gain enough energy to overcome the attractive forces holding them in place and become more mobile, resulting in a change from a fixed shape to a liquid state.
