The four main types of oxides are:
1. Metal oxides are oxides that are formed when a metal reacts with oxygen. Examples include iron oxide (Fe2O3), copper oxide (CuO), and aluminum oxide (Al2O3).
2. Nonmetal oxides are oxides that are formed when a nonmetal reacts with oxygen. Examples include carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
3. Acidic oxides are oxides that react with water to form an acid. Examples include sulfur trioxide (SO3), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and carbon dioxide (CO2).
4. Basic oxides are oxides that react with water to form a base. Examples include sodium oxide (Na2O), potassium oxide (K2O), and calcium oxide (CaO).
