  • Understanding Methane Production in the Body: Causes & Symptoms
Methane is produced in the human body by bacteria in the gut during the digestion of food. Some people may also experience an increased production of methane due to certain medical conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). In these cases, the excessive methane production can cause symptoms such as bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and constipation.
