  • Copper Matte Chemical Formula: Composition and Variations
    Copper matte, also known as matte, is a mixture of copper and iron sulfides formed as an intermediate product during the smelting of copper ores. Its chemical formula can vary depending on the specific composition of the ore and the smelting process. However, a typical copper matte might have a formula represented as Cu2S.FeS, which consists of approximately two moles of copper sulfide (Cu2S) combined with one mole of iron sulfide (FeS). This formula suggests that copper matte contains about 63.3% copper, 29.7% iron, and 7.0% sulfur by weight. The presence of other elements, such as nickel, cobalt, and arsenic, can also be found in minor amounts within copper matte.
