  • Acid-Base Reactions: Understanding Salt and Water Formation
Water is the other product of the reaction of an acid with a base. This reaction is known as a neutralization reaction. The salt produced is a compound composed of the positively charged ions (cations) from the base and the negatively charged ions (anions) from the acid. The water produced is a neutral compound composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
