  • Chloroacetic Acid: Understanding Its Acidity (Weak vs. Strong)
Chloroacetic acid is a weak acid.

The strength of an acid is determined by its ability to donate a hydrogen ion (H+). The more easily an acid donates a hydrogen ion, the stronger it is. Chloroacetic acid has a pKa of 2.87, which means that it is a relatively weak acid. This means that it does not donate its hydrogen ion as easily as a strong acid like hydrochloric acid.
