  • Electrolytes in Water: Does Sugar Dissolve as One?
Sugar in water does not form an electrolyte solution. Electrolytes are substances that, when dissolved in water, break up into positively and negatively charged ions. These ions are then able to conduct electricity. Sugar, however, is a covalent compound, meaning that its atoms share electrons and do not form ions. Therefore, sugar in water does not form an electrolyte solution.
