    A formula unit is the simplest whole number ratio of the atoms or ions in a compound. A molecule is a group of atoms that are held together by chemical bonds.

    SO3 is a molecule. It is composed of one sulfur atom and three oxygen atoms. The sulfur atom is bonded to each of the oxygen atoms by a double bond.
