  • Reaction of Ferric Chloride and Sodium Hydroxide: Products & Chemical Equation
    When residue ferric chloride (FeCl3) is mixed with sodium hydroxide (NaOH), a chemical reaction occurs, resulting in the formation of several products. The main products of this reaction are iron hydroxide (Fe(OH)3), sodium chloride (NaCl), and water (H2O).

    The chemical equation for this reaction can be represented as follows:

    FeCl3 + 3NaOH → Fe(OH)3 + 3NaCl

    In this reaction, the Fe3+ ions in ferric chloride react with the OH- ions in sodium hydroxide to form iron hydroxide, which is an insoluble compound and precipitates as a solid. The Cl- ions from ferric chloride combine with the Na+ ions from sodium hydroxide to form sodium chloride, which remains dissolved in the solution.

    Additionally, the reaction also produces water as a byproduct.
