    Iodine Solution

In this test, copper II sulphate is mixed with potassium hydroxide and sodium potassium tartrate to form Fehling's reagent. When Fehling's reagent is added to a food sample containing reducing sugars, the reducing sugars will reduce the copper II ions to copper I ions, which will then react with the potassium hydroxide to form a red-orange precipitate of copper(I) oxide.

    - Detection of Proteins (Biuret Test): Copper II sulphate is also used in the Biuret test, which is a chemical test used to detect the presence of proteins in food. In this test, copper II sulphate is mixed with sodium hydroxide and potassium sodium tartrate to form the biuret reagent. When the biuret reagent is added to a food sample containing proteins, the proteins will react with the copper II ions to form a purple-colored complex.
