  • Photolysis: Chemical Equation, Mechanism, and Applications
Photolysis is a chemical reaction that is induced by light. The general chemical equation for photolysis is:

    AB + hν → A + B

    where:

    AB is the reactant molecule

hν is the photon of light

A and B are the products of the reaction

The energy of the photon must be greater than or equal to the bond energy of the AB bond in order for the reaction to occur. Photolysis can occur in both the gas phase and the liquid phase.
