The reaction between an acid and an alkaline is called neutralisation. Neutralisation is a chemical reaction in which an acid and a base react in specific amounts to form salt and water. The products of a neutralisation reaction are always a salt and water. The salt is formed by the combination of the positive ions (cations) from the base and the negative ions (anions) from the acid. The water is formed by the combination of the hydrogen ions (H+) from the acid and the hydroxide ions (OH-) from the base.
