  • Understanding Heating: What Happens When Substances Are Heated?
When a substance is heated, it undergoes a process called "heating" or "heat transfer". Heating involves the transfer of thermal energy from a hotter object (or environment) to a cooler object or substance. For example, when you place a pot of water on a stove, heat from the stovetop is transferred to the pot, causing the water to warm up.
