A polar covalent bond is a type of covalent bond in which the electrons are not shared equally between the two atoms. This results in a partial positive charge on one atom and a partial negative charge on the other. Polar covalent bonds are formed when the electronegativity of the two atoms is different. Electronegativity is a measure of an atom's ability to attract electrons. The greater the electronegativity of an atom, the more strongly it attracts electrons.
