  • Blood: Mixture or Pure Substance? Understanding Blood Composition
    Blood is a complex fluid that is composed of various components, including plasma, red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes), and platelets (thrombocytes).

    Mixture: Blood is considered a mixture because it contains multiple substances that are not chemically bonded together. The components of blood, such as plasma, cells, and proteins, can be separated through various physical means, such as centrifugation.

    Heterogeneous: Blood is a heterogeneous mixture, which means that its composition is not uniform throughout. The different components of blood have distinct properties and can be observed as separate phases under a microscope. For example, red blood cells appear as distinct, disk-shaped structures suspended in the liquid plasma.

    Pure substance: A pure substance, on the other hand, is a substance that has a definite chemical composition and cannot be separated into simpler components by physical means. Elements and compounds are examples of pure substances.
