  • Why Does My Aluminum Pan Get Dull? Understanding Oxidation & Care
    When aluminium pans are exposed to oxygen in the air, they undergo a process called oxidation, which leads to the formation of a thin layer of aluminium oxide on their surface. This aluminium oxide layer acts as a barrier, preventing further oxidation and protecting the pan from corrosion. However, when the pan is not in use and is left exposed to air, this protective layer can become thicker, resulting in a dull appearance.

    Additionally, the presence of moisture, acids, and other corrosive substances in the air can accelerate the oxidation process, further contributing to the dullness of the pan.

    To maintain the shine of aluminium pans, it is important to clean and dry them thoroughly after each use and store them in a dry place. Regular cleaning with a mild detergent and warm water can help remove any surface dirt or residues that may facilitate oxidation. Avoiding the use of harsh abrasives or steel wool is recommended, as these can scratch the surface of the pan and make it more susceptible to oxidation.
