  • Germanium Chemical Properties: Reactivity, Oxidation & Acids
    1. Reactivity with water

Germanium is a relatively inert metal, but it will react with water at high temperatures. The reaction produces germanium dioxide and hydrogen gas.

    2. Reactivity with acids

Germanium is also reactive with acids. The reaction produces germanium salts and hydrogen gas.

    3. Reactivity with oxygen

Germanium is a semiconductor, and its electrical properties can be changed by doping it with other elements. Germanium is most commonly doped with phosphorus or boron.
