  • Does Saltwater Affect pH Indicators? Phenolphthalein & Litmus Explained
Salt water does not change the color of phenolphthalein or litmus paper. Phenolphthalein is an indicator that turns pink in the presence of a base and colorless in the presence of an acid. Litmus paper is an indicator that turns red in the presence of an acid and blue in the presence of a base. Salt water is a neutral solution, so it will not change the color of either indicator.
