  • Aime Argand: The Innovation Behind the Efficient Oil Lamp
Argand did not invent the oil lamp. He invented a method for improving them.

Swiss Chemist Francois Pierre Ami Argand improved the efficiency and brightness of oil lamps by inventing the Argand lamp in 1780. The Argand lamp featured a cylindrical wick enclosed in a glass chimney, which created a controlled flow of air that resulted in a brighter and steadier flame. This innovative design significantly enhanced the overall performance of oil lamps and became widely used for both indoor and outdoor lighting.
