    Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a colorless, non-flammable gas that is used as an anesthetic and pain reliever. It is also used as a propellant in aerosol cans and whipped cream dispensers.

    Nitrous oxide works by binding to receptors in the brain and spinal cord that block the transmission of pain signals. It also produces a euphoric effect, which is why it is sometimes used as a recreational drug.
