Hwang Woo-Suk, a South Korean scientist, had claimed to have created human embryonic stem cells through somatic cell nuclear transfer in 2004 and 2005. However, these claims were later found to be falsified and he was sentenced to a suspended prison term in 2009. Since then, there have been attempts to vindicate his name, including the publication of a paper in 2020 suggesting that some of his data may have been accurate. However, the scientific community generally still considers the original claims to be fraudulent.
