  • Chinese Automakers Showcase Innovation at Geneva Motor Show Amid Domestic Sales Dip
    At the 2023 Geneva International Motor Show, Chinese car manufacturers made a significant impression despite China's declining new car sales, which fell by the most in the last 30 years as COVID-19 measures in 2022 disrupted businesses and consumer demand.

    Here are some highlights from Chinese carmakers at the Geneva Motor Show:

    MG:

    -> Debut of the MG4 Electric with a 125kW (168hp) motor, a long-range 64kwh battery, and up to 281 miles (452km) of range.

    -> Unveiling of the "Cyberster concept": a two-door electric roadster showcasing MG's vision for sporty EVs featuring a panoramic touchscreen cockpit.

    BYD:

    -> Debut of the BYD Seal, an electric sedans targeting European markets with acceleration from 0-62mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.8 seconds.

    -> Showcase of the Han EV and Tang EV 6/7-seat SUV, demonstrating BYD's commitment to EVs in overseas markets.

    Great Wall Motors:

    -> Unveiling of the ORA Funky Cat: A subcompact hatchback with a distinct retro-futuristic design, offered solely as an EV with different battery range capacities.

    -> Debut of the WEY Coffee 01 plug-in hybrid SUV featuring over-the-air updates, high levels of autonomons driving assistantnces, and luxury amenities.

    NIO:

    -> Display of the ET7 electric sedan boasting autonomous driving assistance technologies and luxurious interiors and the ES7: NIO's new five-seater mid-to-large premium SUV.

    -> Presentation of NIO's concept car: NT2, envisioned to offer smart cabin experiences with augmented reality, holography, and artificial intelligence technologiess.

    Chery:

    -> Premiere of the brand's flagship SUV: TIGGO 9, available in 5-seat

    and 7-seat variants , highlighting comfort, intelligent assistances , and off-road capabilities.

    -> Showcase of the Tiggo 4 pro and Tiggo 8 pro plug-in Hybrid with up to a745-mile (115km) EV-only range, demonstrating Chery's commitment to new energy vehicles.

    Despite facing domestic sales challenges, these Chinese carmakers leveraged the Geneva Motor Show platform to emphasize their focus on electric vehicles, sustainable energy options, smart technologies, and innovative designs, highlighting their determination to compete in international markets as well. These debuts signal Chinese manufacturers' intention to grow the global automotive industry.
