As literature teachers, we have a unique opportunity to help students develop critical thinking skills and empathy, and to challenge them to think about the world in new ways. We can also use literature to teach students about the history of racism and its effects on society, and to help them develop the tools they need to be anti-racist.

Here are some tips for creating an anti-racist classroom:

1. Choose diverse texts that represent a variety of voices and experiences.

This will help students to see themselves and their experiences reflected in the literature they read, and to learn about the experiences of others who are different from them.

By creating an anti-racist classroom, we can help students to become more critical thinkers, more empathetic, and more aware of the ways in which racism affects our world. We can also help them to develop the tools they need to be anti-racist and to work for a more just and equitable society.
