    Droughts: The most significant factor that contributed to the Dust Bowl was a series of severe droughts that occurred in the Great Plains region of the United States from the 1930s to the 1950s. The drought conditions led to a reduction in rainfall and an increase in evaporation, which resulted in a severe moisture deficit in the soil.

    Poor farming practices: Many farmers in the Great Plains adopted unsustainable farming practices that left the soil vulnerable to erosion. These practices included over-tilling the land, which destroyed the natural vegetation that held the soil in place, and monoculture farming, which involved planting the same crop year after year without rotating different types of crops.

    High winds: The drought and poor farming practices created ideal conditions for strong winds to pick up and carry away the dry, loose topsoil.
