  • Epidermal Cell Reproduction: Understanding the Stratum Basale
The reproducing cells of the epidermis are found in the stratum basale, also known as the basal layer.

    Here's why:

    * Stratum Basale: This is the deepest layer of the epidermis. It's a single layer of cuboidal or columnar cells that are constantly dividing through mitosis. These new cells push older cells upward, leading to the formation of the other layers of the epidermis.

    * Keratinocytes: The majority of cells in the stratum basale are keratinocytes, which produce keratin, a tough protein that gives skin its strength and resilience.

    * Melanocytes: This layer also contains melanocytes, which produce melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color and protection from UV radiation.
