  • Blood Cell Formation: Where and How Hematopoiesis Occurs
    Blood cells are formed in the bone marrow.

    Specifically, they are produced in the red bone marrow, which is found in the spongy bone tissue of:

    * Flat bones: Like the skull, ribs, sternum (breastbone), and pelvis.

    * Long bones: The ends of long bones like the femur (thigh bone) and humerus (upper arm bone).

    This process of blood cell production is called hematopoiesis.
