  • Chromosome Number in Organism Gametes: Haploid vs. Diploid
    Gametes (sperm and egg cells) have one set of chromosomes.

    This is called being haploid, meaning they have half the number of chromosomes as the parent organism. When a sperm and egg cell combine during fertilization, they create a zygote with a full set of chromosomes, or two sets, which is called diploid.
