  • Organelles: Understanding the Structures Within a Cell's Cytoplasm
The collective name for different structures in cytoplasm is organelles.

Organelles are specialized subunits within a cell that have specific functions. Some examples of organelles include:

    * Mitochondria: Powerhouse of the cell, responsible for energy production (ATP)

    * Ribosomes: Sites of protein synthesis

    * Golgi apparatus: Processes and packages proteins

    * Endoplasmic reticulum: Network of membranes involved in protein synthesis and lipid metabolism

    * Lysosomes: Contain enzymes for breaking down waste materials

    * Nucleus: Contains the cell's genetic material (DNA)

    * Centrioles: Involved in cell division

    * Vacuoles: Storage compartments for water, nutrients, and waste products
