  • Protein Synthesis: Understanding the Process
The process of making proteins is called protein synthesis.

This complex process can be broken down into two main stages:

    * Transcription: DNA's genetic code is copied into a messenger molecule called mRNA. This happens in the nucleus of the cell.

    * Translation: The mRNA travels to the ribosomes, where it's read and used to assemble amino acids into a protein chain. This happens in the cytoplasm of the cell.
