  • Temperate Broadleaf & Mixed Forests: The Biome with the Most Habitat Loss
The biome that has lost the greatest percentage of its original area due to human activities is the temperate broadleaf and mixed forest.

This biome, which includes forests like those found in eastern North America, Europe, and East Asia, has experienced a massive loss of habitat due to:

    * Deforestation: Historically, these forests were cleared for agriculture, timber, and development.

    * Conversion to agricultural land: Large tracts of temperate forest have been converted to farmland for crops and livestock.

    * Urbanization: The growth of cities and towns has also led to the loss of forest habitat.

    * Pollution: Air and water pollution from industrial activities and agriculture can damage temperate forests.

Estimates suggest that only about 30% of the original temperate broadleaf and mixed forest remains, making it one of the most threatened biomes on Earth.
