  • Why Can't Animals Produce Sugar? The Role of Chloroplasts
Animals are not able to make sugar because they lack the chloroplasts.

Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells that are responsible for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create glucose (sugar) and oxygen.

Animals, on the other hand, obtain their sugar by consuming plants or other animals that have consumed plants.
