  • The Starting Molecule: Glucose in Cellular Respiration & Fermentation
Both cellular respiration and fermentation begin with glucose.

    Here's why:

    * Cellular respiration is the process of breaking down glucose in the presence of oxygen to release energy (ATP).

    * Fermentation is a process that allows cells to generate energy from glucose in the absence of oxygen.

While the subsequent steps of these two processes differ significantly, they both start by breaking down glucose.
