Chloroplasts are the organelles within plant cells that contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the pigment that absorbs sunlight and uses its energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (sugar), a process called photosynthesis. This glucose serves as the plant's food source.
Animals, on the other hand, lack chloroplasts and therefore cannot perform photosynthesis. They must obtain their food by consuming other organisms, either plants or animals.
